Unbelievable: Mark Sanford admits affair

UPDATE V:

National Review’s Jim Geraghty weighs in:

Sanford’s days are numbered

There will be an effort to impeach Sanford, a Republican strategist with ties to South Carolina tells me. “He’s going to have to resign. It’s South Carolina.

UPDATE IV: Video of Sanford’s presser. Incredibly sad. My goodness.

UPDATE III: Sanford’s web site is down, likely due to overwhelming traffic. Another site that would have been put up eventually would have been http://www.sanfordforpres.com, but that dream is now over. Great job, governor.

UPDATE II: I posted this on Facebook the other day after Ensign’s affair was announced:

Senator John Ensign (R-NV) just admitted to having an extramarital affair with a staffer. Sigh. What is going on w/ all of our elected officials!? I mean, seriously. Foley, Spitzer, Vitter, Ensign, etc, etc, etc. Can we please just start electing politicians that can keep their junk in their pants? Is that too much to ask?

And now we have Sanford. Unbelievable.

UPDATE:

From JPFreire on Twitter:

Sanford wrongly calculated this as a way to get acclaim for his experience in foreign affairs.

Quite clever. Sad, but clever.

GEEZ.

From Breitbart:

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) – South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford says he’s been having an affair and will resign as head of the Republican Governor’s Association.

The married father of four emotionally apologized to his wife, staff and others after returning Wednesday from a trip to Argentina that followed a dayslong absence. He staff had said the Republican was hiking on the Appalachian Trail.

He had been a rumored contender for the 2012 GOP ticket. A former congressman, he’s most recently snared headlines for his unsuccessful fight to turn aside federal stimulus cash for his state’s schools.
