He was assigned to the 710th Brigade Support Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), Fort Drum, N.Y.

Army 1st Sgt. John D. Blair, 38, of Calhoun, Ga., died June 20, 2009 in Mado Zayi, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when a rocket-propelled grenade struck his vehicle. He was an Army National Guardsman assigned to the 1st Battalion, 121st Infantry Regiment, Lawrenceville, Ga.

    Because it’s easier to feel bad about one man that American has “grown up with” dying of a heart attack than to think about all the men and women that have died in such terrible ways.

    It’s sad, but it’s true.

    The American psyche can’t handle it.
