About Me

Thank you for visiting my blog! I hope it will be both informative and resourceful to you as I share my thoughts covering all things political, and some things not.

Now, let me tell you a little bit about myself. I’m a 23 year-old college graduate of the University of Washington, where I received my degree in political science. Yes, you read that right. They actually admitted and gave a diploma to a Conservative at the UW. Shocking, I know.

In all seriousness though, being the only outspoken Conservative in some of my classes wasn’t easy, but to not stand up for Conservative values and principles would have meant wasting a huge opportunity to make an impact there.

Outside of the classroom, one of the ways I was able to infiltrate the Liberal ranks was by getting a position with the UW’s daily newspaper for a quarter. I was the bi-weekly Conservative opinion columnist, and went head-to-head with a Liberal and a Moderate in a feature called  “Left, Right, and Center.” My columns usually garnered the most amount of hate mail, with my favorite quote coming from a Liberal after I wrote a column on enhanced interrogation techniques and torture. He wrote, “I hope you regret writing this. I’m confident that you’re going to hell (if such a place exists).” Ah, liberal tolerance….

Well, there’s a little bit about me and my background. If you have any comments or questions, please feel free to send me an email!

Love that excerpt from the hate mail. They’ll make a special case of someone going to hell JUST for you, even though they are not sure it exists. Typical foundation-less emotion-driven rhetoric from the statists.

Glad you’re doing this Nick – keep it up and I’m always around to back you up!!!

Wow… I thought I was the only conservative in Seattle 🙂

Amazing how folks find religion when they can figure out a way to bash you with it. Keep on truckin’

Wow, I didn’t know there were any conservatives in Washington. Nick, I live in Arkansas but was born in Oregon. I recently met up with relatives in California while my Washingtonian relatives were down. Needless to say I got into political conversations with them, stood my ground, but took a real liberal beating, from both states. I wanted to exit the state post-haste, but managed to stick around long enough for my grandma’s funeral, yes that’s right. Anyway, we need to stand up for the values we hold true on all ends of the country. Great work!

    • Nick says:

Haha, yeah, there are a few of us!

Good for you for standing strong, I know those kinds of debates can be fierce.

I’m sorry to hear about your grandma.

Nick, one brite spot I wanted to mention is that my cousin just graduated from UW and has by now shipped off to officer candidate school for the Marines. I won’t post his name but would provide it to you off line. His parents are die hard Liberals and you can imagine how this has distressed them. Personally I am very proud of him. He was with the group in California (in previous post)and addmitted to me in front of his dad that he believed he was a conservative.

    • Nick says:

Wow, how did that happen? Two liberal parents and he joined the Marines? That’s a rarity, I would imagine.

Well, good for you both for fighting for Conservative principles. Well done! And if you speak to your cousin, tell him thank you for me.

  5. Looks like we are birds of a feather Nick. My hat is off to you. If our country is to have a fighting chance, we need more people like you willing to confront liberalism at every turn. Old-fashioned liberalism is one thing, but this newer version is leading us to hell in the proverbial handout basket.
    Onward!

  6. Allan Erickson says:

Hey ya’ll. Michael Medved lives in Seattle and he is one of the intellectual giants in the conservative movement. Onward!

Awesome. Stick to your guns Nick. I went to college at the U of Colorado at the People’s Republic of Boulder, where I was the only conservative in a sea of 25,000 liberals. It was great. Not only could they not break my convictions but slowly I even began to win some of them over.

    Keep up the good work!

    • Nick says:

Thanks Andrew, I will for sure.

I feel the same exact way about the UW as you did with Colorado. I love being one of the only Conservatives. And I’m glad you were able to win some Libs over; I hope I’ve been able to as well. I know I’ve gained respect, but I don’t know if I’ve gained any converts, lol.

You’ll get them Nick. You have the power of rational thought on your side. Just keep asking them questions about their beliefs and pointing out the contradictions and they will start to get it.

  8. Cam says:

    Kudos Nick.

I’m sure a lot of people would say it’s pretty pathetic to define yourself by your politics at such a young age, and that people who are passionate about ideals tend to be people who have nothing real in their life to care about.

But you didn’t let that get to you. You stood tall as the Proud Conservative you are!

While all those fools are off partying and creating memories, you scan Supreme Court memos and comment on Conservative blogs. Heck, you even started one of your own! Good for you!

And although it’s probably true that 99% of political blogs are only read by people who already share their viewpoints, and blogs in general have remarkably little influence on public opinion, you soldier ahead and post several times a day!

Remember, Nick, the world is a very negative place. When a headstrong and idealistic young man like yourself tries to make a difference by writing commentary on articles by Charles Krauthammer and Michael Barone, there are naysayers who will say “Who cares?” and “You’ve gotten 2 comments on your last 13 posts combined. NO ONE CARES WHAT YOU THINK.” But don’t let them bring you down. You know what’s right and you know what needs to be done.

Keep writing! With a little luck, you could be the next Noah Johns! Just imagine!

Nick, I’m a graduate of UW (’81 – yes that was in the last century),and live in Eastern WA now. I’ve raised 3 good conservatives who are all now in college. It may interest you to know that as I talk with my kids they have observed that often students in their classes are more conservative than the instructors.
I appreciate your work and will be watching for your successes as you go out into the world of politics.

    • Nick says:

Hi Lori! Thank you so much for the kind words. I’m glad your kids are standing with those of us on the Right in battling Liberalism on campus! That’s awesome. 🙂
