Quote of the Day

“You know, I thought when we elected a black president, we were gonna get a black president. You know, this is where I want a real black president. I want him in a meeting with the BP CEOs, you know, where he lifts up his shirt so they could see the gun in his pants. “We got a motherf—ing problem here?” You know, shoot somebody in the foot.”

I’m glad to know Bill Maher’s definition of a “real” black man is a thug who keeps a gun in his pants, talks like a gangsta, and then shoots people. You stay classy, Bill.

Oh, by the way, I’m tired of hearing the, “But he’s just a comedian!” defense from the Left. If you have serious newsmakers on your show on a daily basis, as Maher does, then you should be held accountable for what you say. Same goes for Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert.

He is a comedian, and that was a joke. Keith Olbermann could not say that, neither could Rachel Maddow. If Howard Stern said it, or Chris Rock said it, everybody would just laugh and move on. Maher is no different. He does a news comedy show.

It’s a NEWS/comedy show. That means the hosts aren’t exempt from criticism for stupid/racist remarks. If it was a pure comedy show, then fine. But the minute they make serious political points or have newsmakers on, that subjects them to the same criticism as straight-up news hosts.

So when Maher says “but won’t let the truth spoil a good Klan party” (in reference to Tea Party), “my only belief is she’s got neo-cons scribbling all this stuff in crayon for her” (referring to Palin),
“Democrats need to push the rest of their agenda while their boot is on the neck of the greedy, poisonous old reptile”, “Obama should have used anger, fear to promote health care agenda”, and “wished that an assination attempt on Cheney had been succesful” ALL of these were JOKES???

Face it, he’s got a liberal platform to spew his vitriol against people who don’t share his far left socialist ideology.

Sarcasm? The show never admits to being objective. And above all he is A COMEDIAN. By the way, his jokes are not racist. They’re playing off stereotypes. He doesn’t legitimately believe every black guy carries a gun, he doesn’t actually believe Palin gets her notes on crayon, he doesn’t actually believe the Tea Party is a covert Klan gathering.

Stop getting your feathers ruffled over clear satire. If the ACLU has an issue, they can deal, but otherwise it’s all in good fun.

The tolerance for the Left and Right when it comes to “comedy” is completely different and you know it.

If *anyone* on the Right would have made the joke Maher made, they would have been crucified.

    • DCG says:

Sarcastic? Try hypocrite. Dang straight Maher never admits to “objectivity”. When you can’t debate the facts it becomes “comedy”…

How do you know what he actually believes? Been spending time w/him at the Playboy mansion?

      • Bill says:

I think it’s pretty easy to deduce what his on-air personality believes. The grand satire doesn’t exactly make it difficult. And I don’t know of any prominent conservative comedians. In art, it’s hard to find those on the right.
